Individually inscribed to John D. Davis, a member of the Board of Directors for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. Per FindAGrave.com, Mr. Davis was born 1851, died 1917, and is buried at lot 2564 in the Bellefontaine Cemetery of St. Louis, MO. (Memorial ID 40277782). Mr. Davis served on several sub-committees for the exposition, including the Foreign Relations, Mines and Mining, and Reception and Entertainment.
Acquired with original leather presentation case with velvet lining and gold embossed lettering and German Imperial seal.
Cast in the "lost wax" process by the Berlin firm of H. Gladenbeck & Son.
