1:15 ratio variant cover - being a black and white version of cover 1A by Amanda Conner. This is a bit of a rarity, and it is due to Amanda's exceptional line work - this cover translates to black and white amazingly well. All the detail of the art is still there, the tension of the scene she has crafted is evident, and the light foreground/dark background does an amazing job of putting the image right in your face. I really like Amanda Conner's Red Sonja covers - I think this might be the first one, but she does an entire run some years later and her Red Sonja is strong, looks like a woman who takes no shit and leaves no one behind. She hasn't really developed that image for her yet in this early cover - but you can see some inklings of what is to come. Obviously, Amanda's Sonja - as pictured here is way thicker than Jenny Frison's - yet far less than she will become under Amanda's hand in the years to come.
Overall? I didn't get this cover from my LCS when it came out, I got the Nicola Scott cover. One of the few issues where I didn't get the Jenny Frison cover. Nonetheless, this either didn't stand out to me - or more likely my LCS didn't order enough copies for this to even be an option for me. But - I think if I had the choice - I very well might have chosen this one.
