This 9.6 is the first ever graded copy!
I had a raw copy of this book ready to submit when this one came up auction style on eBay. I had recently tried to bid on a different auction on eBay but my confirm bid button didn't work on my phone... frustrating! I spotted this book and it was only at $3.00 so I decided to bid $5.00 just to make sure it would work. I became the high bidder but was then outbid... after more thought I raised my bid to $30.00 and ended up winning it at $10.92... not bad for a 9.6 first graded copy!
I bought this book at a crossroads... CGC was in the middle of #warpgate where books were being sent back to customers with warped inner wells, and with bends that sometimes broke color. CGC was saying that a certain amount of warping was acceptable and making people keep their obviously damaged books while also saying that they are still 9.8, even though 99% of the collecting community would disagree. As I write this I have five books currently at CCS and I believe I am done submitting books after that... it feels like the end of an era and is actually kind of sad to have watched this company go downhill so quickly... time will tell if I (and others) continue to feel this way, or if CGC can win back my/our trust. I am open and hope they do!
Either way, I think my days of paying big bucks for CGC graded books (that may or may not be the grade it says on the label) are behind me, and I have in fact started selling some of my extra stash that I had previously thought I'd never let go.
