Owner's Description

In “Sorcerers of the Sea", Aquaman and his family are sleep-drugged and Mera is abducted, but not before Aquaman is knocked unconscious by a man wearing a five-sided ring on his hand. Aquagirl finds Aquaman, Aqualad, and Aquababy and revives them and Aquaman and Aqualad begin a quest to find and recover Mera. They come upon an underwater medieval-style city, which is ruled by a group of magicians called "the Sorcerers" and whose queen is a dead ringer for Mera. When Aquaman attempts to snatch the queen, he and Aqualad are taken captive, and Aqualad gets a sword wound in his arm. Aquaman breaks both of them out of jail and gets Aqualad back to Atlantis, where he is hospitalized. Then he returns to the medieval city, fights past a sorcerous guard, and breaks into the Queen's private chambers. But Aquaman quickly determines that the Queen is not Mera, only a look-alike with different-colored eyes, and leaves to begin the quest for Mera anew.

Our WP 9.8 comes from the Pacific Coast Collection, which is generally considered to be the greatest Silver Age collection to ever surface. It was brought to market by Robert Roter after he discovered portions of it for sale on E-Bay in 1999. The books were marketed through PCE over the next several years and contained over 7,000 comics and magazines that included Marvel, DC, and Gold Key among others, covering a time span between 1961 and 1977. Many of the highest graded Marvel and DC issues from the early '60s hail from this collection with exceptional page quality. The books do not exhibit any distinguishing markings

I believe the book is our 19th from the Pacific Coast Collection in this set, and is tied with four other copies for highest graded. We picked this book up in a straight swap of 9.8s in May 2023 as part of a larger transaction.
