Set Description:
Growing up, I was not a Daredevil fan or collector. I can recall purchasing five Daredevil comic books during the late eighties into the early nineties. In turn, I primarily collected X-Men, Wolverine and Amazing Spider-Man comics.
However, I became a huge Daredevil fan after watching the Netflix premiere in April of 2015! I love that Matt Murdock is human like you and I, but with developed superhuman abilities due to overcoming his physical impairment of being blind.
As a result, I started connecting more with street level characters such as Daredevil, the Punisher, the Kingpin, Bullseye, and Elektra, as I am also a martial artist (black belt) and Italian (same as Frank Castle) + grew up in the city of Rochester, NY and resided in New York City for ten years.
Therefore, my collecting focus shifted. I could easily identify with these characters, especially because of the phenomenal actors like Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Jon Bernthal (Punisher), Vincent D’Onofrio (Kingpin) and Wilson Bethel (Bullseye) playing their roles to perfection!
Like Daredevil, I also have a strong Christian faith that often gets tested due to life’s hardships. I also chose the path in pursuing higher education to better my life and help others in need, which in my case, has been serving as a teacher in underprivileged inner-city schools.
Moreover, I personally love the Frank Miller contributions to the Daredevil title, as if it were not for him, we would not have the Daredevil streaming series we have experienced today!
Although I do my best to invest in the highest possible grade for each issue—as much as my budget can afford, I also seek out exceptional looking examples that exhibit aesthetic qualities that are not associated with a book’s assigned grade.
In order of my personal importance, these consist of PERFECT to NEAR PERFECT:
1. Cover Wrap & Centering
2. Color Vibrancy
3. Cut
4. Staple Placement
In addition, I also seek out superior page quality, so every book in this set either has PERFECT White Pages or Off-White To White Pages!
Essentially, I am the quintessential collector who practices the saying, “Buy the book and NOT the grade!”
Furthermore, I also take immense pride in each write-up. It does not matter whether the book is worth $100.00 or $100,000.00, I will break down a book’s information with respect and integrity—so each piece shines in its own glory! I do not think you will find a more thorough Daredevil set anywhere!
WELCOME TO “FEAR NO EVIL, SEE NO EVIL!”

Daredevil #1 features the origin and 1st appearance of Daredevil (Matt Murdock) + the 1st appearance of Karen Page and Foggy Nelson!
Overstreet 2023 NM- 9.2 value = $29,000.
Currently Ranked #22 on Overstreet's list of Top 50 Silver Age Comics.
According to the CGC Census Report as of Tuesday, August 22, 2023, out of a total of 5,012 Universal copies graded, ONLY 39 copies were graded in 9.4 with ONLY 34 copies graded higher: 31 in 9.6 and 3 in 9.8!
With these statistics in mind, this represents an impressive rarity factor of ONLY 0.78% of the total population!

Here he is! “The Man Without Fear!” The last MAJOR Marvel character to emerge from the legendary “BIG Bang” explosion of the early Marvel Universe within the Silver Age of Comics!
To provide you with a visual perspective, here is a chronological 1st appearance list of the early Silver Age Marvel Key issues!
Although Tales to Astonish #13 was published under Atlas Comics (before the Marvel Comics transition), I decided to add it to the list as it features the 1st appearance of Groot, who later becomes an integral member of the Guardians of the Galaxy!
Furthermore, notice that Daredevil is tied with the Black Widow’s 1st appearance (Tales of Suspense #52) with only Hawkeye (Tales of Suspense #57) appearing after!
• Tales to Astonish #13: (11/60)
• Fantastic Four #1: (11/61)
• Tales to Astonish #27: (1/62)
• Fantastic Four #4: (5/62)
• Incredible Hulk #1: (5/62)
• Fantastic Four #5: (7/62)
• Amazing Fantasy #15: (8/62)
• Journey Into Mystery #83: (8/62)
• Journey Into Mystery #85: (10/62)
• Amazing Spider-Man #1: (3/63)

• Amazing Spider-Man #2: (5/63)
• Tales to Astonish #44: (6/63)
• Amazing Spider-Man #3: (7/63)
• Strange Tales #110: (7/63)

• X-Men #1: (9/63)
• Avengers #4: (3/64)
• Daredevil #1: (4/64)
• Tales of Suspense #52: (4/64)
• Tales of Suspense #57: (9/64)
Due to Daredevil’s late entry into the Marvel Age of Comics, he was unfortunately doubted and SLEPT-ON from the very beginning! If you analyze the cover (aside from the title), Spider-Man’s name is written in bigger font than Daredevil’s name, which is also placed on “top” of Daredevil’s smaller text area! Spider-Man’s facial profile is also larger than Daredevils…and it is “his” debut!
To make it worse, they also had to use the Fantastic Four to help promote his magazine, along with images and text of Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, which cheated Daredevil from having less real estate on his first appearance issue!
As far as the market is concerned, a CGC 9.4 or higher graded copy of any of the earlier Silver Age Marvel Keys would easily hit 100K, far surpassing that for which a Daredevil #1 CGC 9.4 would sell! However, I am telling you now, this is all about to change soon! What you are looking at is a future six-figure book!
My man Charlie Cox played Daredevil to perfection in the critically acclaimed Marvel Daredevil Streaming Series (2015-2018), and is about to make his permanent spot within the MCU! Keep sleeping on him if you want to, but all I can say is the best was saved for last!
In closing, I purchased this PERFECTLY CENTERED & NEAR PERFECTLY WRAPPED IMMACULATE COPY from Heritage Comics & Comic Art Signature Auction #7274 in June of 2022! I am super proud to own this stunning copy and look forward to watching it appreciate each year!

Daredevil #2 features the 2nd appearance of Daredevil and Electro!
Overstreet 2023 NM- 9.2 value = $3,200.
According to the CGC Census Report as of Tuesday, August 22, 2023, out of a total of 2,022 Universal copies graded, ONLY 26 copies were graded in 9.4 with ONLY 15 copies graded higher: 12 in 9.6 and 3 in 9.8!
With these statistics in mind, this represents an impressive rarity factor of ONLY 1.29% of the total population!
___________________________________________________________
After Stan Lee, Bill Everett and Jack Kirby made history by introducing the world to the first handicapped superhero in the premiere issue, they continued the shock factor in issue #2 by having Daredevil fight against one of Spider-Man’s deadliest foes…the electrifying Electro!
Max Dillon (Electro), 1st appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #9, which was published in February of 1964—only “4” months prior to making his 2nd appearance in Daredevil #2!
This was another BOLD move on behalf of Stan Lee and his all-star team, because it set in motion the idea that Spider-Man and Daredevil do not exist in parallel universes, but in the same New York City setting fighting against the same criminal minded antagonists causing chaos in “their” city!
In September of 1964—just 3 months after Daredevil #2 was published, Daredevil made his 1st crossover appearance in the history of comics in Amazing Spider-Man #16, where he met Spider-Man for the very first time! In turn, Spider-Man would crossover into Daredevil’s magazine in issue #16, which represented the two perennial NYC based superheroes as a cohesive unit, which spawned into a broader Marvel Universe!
Essentially, Daredevil #2 served as a precursor to a plethora of Marvel crossover appearances in which we now see played out on the silver screen…known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)!
Furthermore, the Jack Kirby and Vince Colletta cover is stunning! Just like the cover of Amazing Spider-Man #9 depicts Electro defeating Spider-Man; Daredevil #2 also features Electro shocking the hell out of Daredevil—another major Marvel superhero! That makes Electro 2-0 in just his first two appearances in the history of comics! In addition, the deep red background coupled with the yellow colors on Daredevil and Electro’s suits, the title and the text boxes really make this cover POP!
Moreover, actor Jamie Foxx portrayed Max Dillon / Electro in the Sony Pictures film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), and reprised his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), which featured an updated costume design resembling a look more closely related to his comic book appearances.
In closing, I purchased this NEAR PERFECTLY WRAPPED & CENTERED immaculate copy from Pedigree Comics’ Grand Auction in March of 2022! I was very blessed to end up with the winning bid and I am looking forward to watching it appreciate each year!

Daredevil #3 features the origin and 1st appearance of the Owl (Leland Owlsley)!
Overstreet 2023 NM- 9.2 value = $1,500.
According to the CGC Census Report as of Tuesday, August 22, 2023, out of a total of 1,488 Universal copies graded, ONLY a mere 11 copies were graded in 9.6 with ONLY 2 copies graded higher in 9.8!
With these statistics in mind, this represents an impressive rarity factor of ONLY 0.74% of the total population!
___________________________________________________________
Published in August of 1964, Daredevil #3 not only features Daredevil’s 3rd appearance in the history of comics, but also features the 1st issue within the run in which an original Daredevil villain was introduced! As noted on the front cover: MARVEL’S NEWEST SENSATION IS TRAPPED BY…THE OWL, OVERLORD OF CRIME!
The classic Jack Kirby cover depicts Mr. Leland Owlsley sitting on his owl-themed throne in his gangster attire, while pulling back a mechanical lever, which opens a large hollow section of the tile flooring in a clever attempt to capture Daredevil!
Still featured in his original yellow and black suit, Daredevil is leaping across the page to not only avoid the unexpected pitfall from the trap flooring, but from the attack of two of the Owl’s henchmen, with one of them pointing a pistol at him!
Kirby’s attention to detail is superb! Behind the Owl’s boss throne, he drew a silhouette of an owl’s body and detailed the back of his throne to resemble an owl’s big and powerful eyes! At first glance, one might not see this, which creates a slight optical illusion to play off the villain’s deceitful nature!
In addition, do you think that the Owl’s hairstyle could have been the prototype to Wolverine’s famous hairdo, which would occur more than 10 years later? It is certainly remarkably similar looking and might be a topic worth exploring further!
Moreover, the Owl (Leland Owlsley) was portrayed on the silver screen by actor Bob Gunton in the critically acclaimed Marvel Daredevil Streaming Series (2015-2018)!
In closing, I purchased this PERFECTLY WRAPPED & CENTERED pristine copy from Mr. Vincent Zurzolo of Metropolis Collectibles / Comic Connect in August of 2021! I am super proud to own this stunning copy and look forward to watching it appreciate each year!

Daredevil #4 features the origin and 1st appearance of the Purple Man (Zebediah Killgrave)!
Overstreet 2023 NM- 9.2 value = $1,350.
Pacific Coast Pedigree!
According to the CGC Census Report as of Tuesday, August 22, 2023, out of a total of 1,744 Universal copies graded, only 32 copies were graded in 9.4 with only 16 copies graded higher: 12 in 9.6 and 4 in 9.8!
With these statistics in mind, this represents an impressive rarity factor of ONLY 1.83% of the total population!
___________________________________________________________
After battling Electro and the Owl in the previous two issues, writer Stan Lee and artist Joe Orlando created another powerful supervillain for Daredevil to face—the enigmatic Purple Man!
Born in Rijeka, Croatia, Zebediah Killgrave began his civilian career as a physician, but later decided to become an international spy. During one of his classified missions, he was ordered to infiltrate a chemical refinery and was accidentally doused with a chemical that turned his hair and skin purple! After being captured and interrogated, providing a weak alibi, Killgrave was released.
As time went on, he experienced several other dangerous encounters, but amid these critical situations, he discovered the nerve gas that originally altered his skin color enabled him to command the wills of other people!
With his new superhuman powers unveiled, he called himself the Purple Man and embarked on a criminal career in which he first battled none other than The Man Without Fear! However, due to the Purple Man’s powers having to rely on full sensory manipulation, and because Daredevil is blind and therefore uses less neurological processing than others, Daredevil was able to resist his mind altering influence in order to defeat him!
As a result, Killgrave was imprisoned in a special cell designed to dampen his powers, but eventually escaped and moved to San Francisco. Over the course of two years building a small criminal enterprise in The Golden City, Daredevil and the Black Widow dismantled his operations after they relocated there!
Furthermore, actor David Tennant played Killgrave in the Marvel Jessica Jones Streaming Series (2015-2019). Unfortunately, he portrayed an alternate version of the character named Kevin Thompson and was not featured with his classic purple hair and skin, as he is represented in the comics.
Moreover, published in October of 1964, Daredevil #4 features Daredevil’s “5th” overall appearance in the history of comics! The classic Jack Kirby and Vince Colletta cover is superb! It is reminiscent of the cover of Amazing Fantasy #15, where we see Spider-Man swinging through the heart of Manhattan rescuing a civilian!
In closing, I purchased this NEAR PERFECTLY WRAPPED & CENTERED Pacific Coast Pedigree copy from Pedigree Comics’ Grand Auction in March of 2022! I was very blessed to end up with the winning bid and I’m looking forward to watching it appreciate each year!

With these statistics in mind, this represents an impressive rarity factor of ONLY 2.39% of the total population!
___________________________________________________________
Published in December of 1964, Daredevil #5 introduces us to another original Daredevil villain—El Matador! This set the tone for following the likes of the legendary Amazing Spider-Man run, as most of the early issues introduced a new primary antagonist that would provide continuity throughout the title!
With that said, here are the highlights of Daredevil #5:
• 1st appearance of one of Daredevil’s earliest villains (El Matador)!
• 1st time Daredevil’s costume has a double D on his chest (hence the minor costume change)!
• 1st Wally Wood Daredevil cover (in collaboration with Jack Kirby), who would later create the classic covers for issues 6-11!
• 6th ever appearance of Daredevil!
• Last issue published in 1964!
SIDE NOTE: I will eventually submit this stunner to be ReHoldered! I think the beautiful sunset background will coordinate well with the new Pedigree label! In addition, with the clearer case, the colors are going to radiate even more vibrantly!
In closing, I purchased this PERFECTLY WRAPPED & CENTERED Pacific Coast Pedigree copy from the Comic Link Exchange in January of 2022! I am super proud to own this immaculate copy and look forward to watching it appreciate each year!

Published in February of 1965, Daredevil #6 introduces us to another original Daredevil villain—Mr. Fear! As I referred to in my previous write-up for Daredevil #5, like the Amazing Spider-Man run; the early Daredevil run mirrored the blueprint of incorporating a plethora of villains to make the stories more interesting and to keep the readers engaged! As a result, in my opinion, both the ASM and Daredevil Silver Age runs are LEGENDARY!
With that said, here are the highlights of Daredevil #6:
• 1st appearance and origin of one of Daredevil’s earliest villains (Mr. Fear)!
• 1st full Wally Wood Daredevil cover (he previously collaborated with Jack Kirby on DD #5)
• 1st Daredevil issue published in 1965!
• 7th ever appearance of Daredevil!

Daredevil truly lives up to his moniker! In just his previous six appearances, he has faced off against some of the most powerful Marvel characters, which include in chronological order: Electro, the Owl, Spider-Man, the Purple Man, El Matador and Mr. Fear!
Now, in issue #7, The Man Without Fear must battle another super powerful antagonist, which is none other than Mr. Namor McKenzie AKA the Sub-Mariner!
For historical reference, Sub-Mariner was one of the very 1st Marvel Superhero / Supervillains ever created! Published in November of 1939 by Timely Comics (before they merged into Marvel Comics), Sub-Mariner first appeared in the extremely RARE Marvel Comics #1! This historical landmark issue also featured the first appearances of other Golden Age standout characters such as the Human Torch, Ka-Zar, Angel, Jungle Terror, and the Masked Raider!
After appearing in numerous issues within the Golden Age comic book runs of Marvel Mystery Comics (1939-1949), All-Winners Comics (1941-1947) and Sub-Mariner Comics (1941-1955), Sub-Mariner would not appear in the Silver Age of Comics until Fantastic Four #4, which was published in May of 1962.
In just under 3 years later, in April of 1965—exactly 1 year after Daredevil #1 was published, Stan Lee decided to have The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen go head-to-head with the super powerful Sub-Mariner…in his classic 7th issue!
With all the bloodshed that Daredevil has endured throughout his early existence, it was only fitting to modify his yellow and black costume to his iconic crimson red suit that we are all familiar with!
In addition, the classic Wally Wood cover and art is stunning, as the Sub-Mariner is featured throwing Daredevil underwater like a ragdoll! Furthermore, the deep blue and purple background make it one of the toughest issues within the run to attain in high-grade, which out of the 1st ten Daredevil issues, #7 is the ONLY issue that does not have a single CGC 9.8 graded!
In closing, I purchased this PERFECTLY WRAPPED & CENTERED immaculate copy from Pedigree Comics’ Grand Auction in March of 2022! I was very blessed to end up with the winning bid and I am looking forward to watching it appreciate each year!

Published in June of 1965, Daredevil #8 introduces us to another original Daredevil villain—Stilt-Man AKA Wilbur Day!
The beautiful Wally Wood cover features superb perspective, as Stilt-Man ascends high into the clouds peering down at The Man Without Fear, after elongating the metal telescopic legs of his armored battle suit!
The light gray background color is subtle yet powerful, as it brings out the deep red and black colors featured on the Daredevil logo, his suit, and on the *EXTRA* headline of the “New York Daily Press” Newspaper, which boldly reads: DAREDEVIL VS. STILT MAN!
Furthermore, Stilt-Man became a reoccurring Daredevil villain, and made his next seven follow-up appearances (within the title) in issues #26—#27, Daredevil Annual #1, #48, #67, #102 and #186!
I personally LOVE Stilt-Man covers and they are highly underrated! Moreover, there is also a possibility that he will make his MCU debut in a future Daredevil episode, so when that happens…this book will explode!

Published in July of 1966, Daredevil #18 introduces us to another original Daredevil villain—the Gladiator!
What a badass John Romita Sr. battle cover featuring Gladiator Vs. Daredevil! Towering above Daredevil with his classic spinning wrist blades, the Gladiator’s brute strength is demonstrated, as he only has one arm raised, which is enough to make Ol’ Hornhead struggle (with both of his hands) to restrain his oncoming attack!
The setting takes place on a wooden pier in front of a boating dock, amidst a howling windstorm causing high tides in the background! The gray color hues coordinate lovely with Daredevil’s red suit and the Gladiator’s olive green, blue and yellow suit! In addition, on the bottom of the cover, (which is classic of John Romita’s style), we see a large purple banner with white and yellow font that reads: THERE SHALL COME A GLADIATOR! This cover POPS!
Furthermore, Gladiator became a reoccurring Daredevil villain, but would eventually reform and become one of Daredevil’s most loyal allies!
Moreover, Melvin Potter was portrayed on the silver screen by actor Matt Gerald in the critically acclaimed Marvel Daredevil Streaming Series (2015-2018)! However, although there were multiple clues indicating that Melvin Potter was preparing the parts to his armored suit, we never saw his character evolve into the Gladiator, as Netflix cancelled Daredevil after the third season!
Fortunately, Daredevil will return in the Spring of 2024 in Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: ‘Born Again’ on Disney+, which means it is more than likely that we are going to see the Gladiator soon!

Published in March of 1967, Gene Colan drew an eye appealing Stilt-Man Vs. Daredevil battle cover! The gray tone background really makes the red, blue, green, and dark purple colors POP! Furthermore, the bottom-up perspective really captivates your attention, as Stilt-Man is featured catapulting above the skyscrapers with his metal telescopic legs and socking the hell out of Daredevil with a left hook!
In just his second appearance, with his debut occurring back in June of 1965 in Daredevil #8, Stan “The Man” Lee humorously wrote in the arrow caption: IT’S ONE OF OUR LEAST-INSPIRED TITLES…BUT THE STORY’S A BLAST!!

Moreover, not only does the Stilt-Man make his third appearance in this issue, but after previously appearing in Daredevil issues 16-17, Spider-Man makes his “3rd” crossover appearance in the Daredevil title!
To piggyback off his previous caption in Daredevil 26, but this time making a powerful and striking statement to immediately grab the reader’s attention, Stan “The Man” Lee boldly wrote: AND HOW ABOUT OUR TITANIC TITLE?
“MIKE MURDOCK MUST DIE!”

In closing, I purchased this PERFECTLY WRAPPED & CENTERED copy from mycomicshop (via eBay) in March of 2022! I am super proud to own this immaculate copy and look forward to watching it appreciate each year!
Happy Collecting & Enjoy the Hunt!

Published in September of 1967, Gene Colan (penciller) & John Tartaglione (inker) rendered a phenomenal Daredevil Vs. Cobra & Mr. Hyde battle cover! The attention to detail is superb; the movement captured makes you feel like you are watching a LIVE action scene!
In addition, the dark blue background brings out the bright red, yellow and green colors that radiate off the page! To put the icing on the cake, Stan Lee wrote the perfect title caption on the bottom:
“…TO FIGHT THE IMPOSSIBLE FIGHT!”
On that note, Daredevil #32 is one of my favorite Gene Colan covers in his legendary Daredevil run, which spans from issues #20—#100 (September of 1966—June of 1973)!
Early Silver Age Daredevil issues are still extremely undervalued in the current marketplace, so it would not be a bad idea to invest in high grade copies NOW, while they are still very affordable!
In closing, I purchased this PERFECTLY WRAPPED & CENTERED copy from the Comic Link Exchange in February of 2022! I am super proud to own this immaculate copy and look forward to watching it appreciate each year!

Daredevil #36 features Daredevil Vs. the Trapster (formerly Paste-Pot Pete) + appearances by Dr. Doom (last page cameo), the Human Torch, the Invisible Girl, and Mr. Fantastic!
Overstreet 2023 NM- 9.2 value = $115.
According to the CGC Census Report as of Tuesday, August 22, 2023, out of a total of 247 Universal copies graded, only 37 copies were graded in 9.4 with only 26 copies graded higher: 23 in 9.6 and 3 in 9.8!
With these statistics in mind, this represents an impressive rarity factor of only 14.98% of the total population!

Published in January of 1968, Gene Colan (penciller) & Paul Reinman (inker) set off the new year by producing a stunning spotlight cover in which the Trapster (formerly Paste-Pot Pete, who famously graced the cover of Strange Tales #110—Doctor Strange’s 1st appearance), is kneeling while holding an unconscious Daredevil!
Lurking in the background, you can see small parts of a green colored cape, with two arms reaching toward the Trapster & Daredevil, who is none other than the diabolical Dr. Doom!
The colors coordinate beautifully, as the dark blue and purple background bring out the red, green, and yellow colors, which are perfectly balanced throughout the Gene Colan cover!
Early Silver Age Daredevil issues are still extremely undervalued in the current marketplace, so it would not be a bad idea to invest in high grade copies NOW, while they are still very affordable!
In closing, I purchased this PERFECTLY WRAPPED & CENTERED copy from Comic Link’s Focused Auction in March of 2022! I am super proud to own this immaculate copy and look forward to watching it appreciate each year!

Daredevil #41 features the “death” of Mike Murdock’s identify + appearances by the Exterminator and the Unholy Three!
Overstreet 2023 NM- 9.2 value = $105.
According to the CGC Census Report as of Tuesday, August 22, 2023, out of a total of 323 Universal copies graded, only 27 copies were graded in 9.6 with only 6 copies graded higher in 9.8!
With these statistics in mind, this represents an impressive rarity factor of only 8.36% of the total population!

Published in June of 1968, Gene Colan (penciller) & Frank Giacoia (inker) created a stylistically different but engaging cover in which a large image of Daredevil was outlined over a vibrant city intersection, which can translate into multiple meanings such as Daredevil committing his life to protecting Hell’s Kitchen and its inhabitants!
Furthermore, Daredevil’s bright red suit dominates most of the cover, with a contrasting dark and light blue background and yellow highlights in the title, so the final product POPS vibrantly upon first glance!
Silver Age Daredevil books (especially the 1st appearance issues) are still extremely undervalued in the current marketplace, so it would not be a bad idea to invest in high grade copies NOW, while they are still very affordable!
In closing, I purchased this PERFECTLY WRAPPED & CENTERED copy from Comic Link’s Focused Auction in April of 2022! I am super proud to own this immaculate copy and look forward to watching it appreciate each year!
