My 2020, 2021, 2023, and 2024 CGC Best Set of The Walking Dead comics in Italian language

Now I have collected every The Walking Dead (TWD) comic printed in English language (670 in total), I have started collecting foreign language editions as an aside to my main collection. Please look at my Just Love the Walking Dead set here for full details of my other award-winning TWD sets in English and other languages.

In Italy, TWD is published by Saldapress. The first issue was published in November 2012 and the final issue was October 2020. The first 27 books were Bonelli / Bonelliani editions, each of which contain four issues of the US comic. Pocket-book format Bonelliani are the most popular form of comics in Italy. From #28 onwards, they contain two US editions.

Whilst there are lots of variant covers in this set from artists, conventions, comic stores, zombie walks and special editions, only issue #1 has ever been reprinted (twice). The true first edition has a red TWD logo. The second printing / first reprint (Prima Restampa) has a green TWD logo, and the third printing / second reprint (Seconda Restampa) has a blue TWD logo. There are 16 variants of #25 (which represents the US #100 / First Negan and Lucille; death of Glenn issue).

Publication is in what Saldapress calls "years", even though each period was not 12-months in length:

• Year 1 / Anno Primo = issues 1-12
• Year 2 / Anno Secondo = issues 13-24
• Year 3 / Anno Terzo = issues 25-36
• Year 4 / Anno Quarto = issues 37-48
• Year 5 / Anno Quinto = issues 49-60
• Year 6 / Anno Sei was the final year = issues 61-70 The End. The final regular issue was published in October 2020.

There are also La Gazzetta dello Sport (Sports Gazzette) comic and DVD sets; these are NOT thought to be for comic collectors.

I carried out the research (and the translations from Italian) on this set, and worked with CGC to list it on the Registry.

Some Italian language for those interested:

• brossura = paperback
• edicola = newsstand
• guerra ai sussurratori = Whisperer War
• raccolta = collection
• tiratura limitata (e numerata) = limited edition (and numbered)
• copia numero = copy number

1. On 20th July 2020, I was presented with the CGC Best Set award for this set.
On 23rd July 2021, I won the same award for the second time
On 21st July 2023, I won the same award for the third time (one of seven CGC Awards presented that day for my TWD/TWDD sets)
On 26th July 2024, I won the same award for the fourth time (one of nine CGC Awards presented that day for my TWD/TWDD sets).
