Published in June of 1989, Jim Lee rendered a stunning cover that documents the Punisher’s historic 1st meeting with the most popular mutant in the Marvel Universe—none other than the Wolverine!
With both of his ejected claws shredding through the Punisher’s skull imprinted shirt with the blades crisscrossed together and forming an “X”—symbolizing his X-Men affiliation, you knew that Wolverine was about to clash with his antihero counterpart, who both made their comic book debuts only 8 months apart from each other—back in 1974!
Jim Lee did a phenomenal job capturing this legendary 1st meeting of the Punisher & Wolverine, and ensured each viewer was made aware of this monumental event with the front cover caption:
MEETING FOR THE FIRST TIME—AND MAYBE THE LAST!
In the following issue of the 2-Part Saga, Jim Lee created a badass Punisher Vs. Wolverine battle cover!

Published in October of 1989—my birthday month, legendary artist Jim Lee created a stunning Punisher & Black Widow spider cover!
I personally love to collect any badass Punisher covers, and when I first came across this particular copy on eBay, I just could not stop starring at it! It was just so damn captivating with that beautiful, bright cherry red background bringing out the gigantic Black Widow spider entangling the Punisher within its intricate webbing!
The attention to detail is superb, as Jim Lee captured a realistic feel of the Punisher struggling to avoid a venomous bite, while gripping two of the spider’s legs with his feet positioned awkwardly on the superpowered web of the Black Widow!
This cover definitely depicts a nightmare scenario, and hence the caption is appropriately titled:
DREAMTIME WITH THE BLACK WIDOW!
Furthermore, I personally feel that Jim Lee covers are still underappreciated, especially within his early Punisher War Journal run, but perhaps that will change down the road? I truly LOVE this beautiful cover and it became the 1st recorded CGC 9.8 Newsstand Edition sale on GPAnalysis.
