#1 with an issue date of 4/52. This comic is the only issue readily available on e-bay with usually three or more listed at any given time. The Marvel Masterworks book (pictured) mentions that the cover artist is unknown. It is highly recommended that any fans of Atlas war should buy this book because the introduction has a great history of the Atlas war comics and also all the stories from all eleven issues are included and they are interesting reads including and especially the famous "Atrocity Story" in issue #2.

Atlas Battlefield issue #2 was, according to the author of the Marvel Masterworks introduction " by far one of the finest Atlas war issues of all" A 52 page comic with seven stories, almost a full page is devoted to this particular comic in the Masterworks introduction, highlighted by the brilliant "Atrocity Story" In the days before the Masterworks edition and on-line comics became available, this issue was highly sought out just to be able to read that story.

I believe the cover art accurately depicts an ambush although I am not sure who ambushed whom?
This was the final comic I needed to complete this 11 issue run, this 3rd issue is often listed for sale on Ebay but I have never seen one that looks like it would grade any higher than a CGC 4.0 and as I didn't want to wait forever I decided to settle for a low grade example to complete the set

Included in the informative introduction of the Battlefield Marvel Masterworks book we learn that this fourth issue includes the only letters page (pictured) in the Atlas war series, and one of the few Atlas letters pages period. It was called "Battlefield Bivouac" and was edited by Stan Lee, after this brief experiment the letters pages would vanish and not reappear until Fantastic Four and Amazing Adult Fantasy in 1962. This 52 page comic is one of the more common issues with at least one copy usually available on ebay

A key Atlas war comic .
Other than the first issues there are very few Atlas war keys
these few keys seem to center around graphic flamethrower covers, usually with the enemy shown being on fire and burning alive.
This nice example of a flamethrower cover is graded CGC 6.5.

The set piece battle covers on each and every cover of Atlas Battlefield are consistently well done although this is probably the weakest cover of the series as the figures are drawn cartoonish style

One of my higher graded issues , all of these Battlefield comics were purchased from E-bay and submitted raw.
None have been pressed. It is very pleasing to get any CGC grade of 6.0 and above. I never look at the CGC grades on line. Not until I have the box at home from the post office, and then I like to look at only one comic a day and try and guess the grade.

This comic is unusual in that it is a good 1/4 inch wider than all the other comics in the series, I don't know what causes this but it still fits in the standard size holder. Red cover displays Great up close individual hand to hand combat scene !

The elusive final issue gives us a brilliant Russ Heath cover of a soldier with "the thousand yard stare"
One of Atlas war greatest covers, he is cleaning off his knife blade with a bloody rag, he has just dispatched the two enemy dead behind him, his helmet has a bullet hole and a dent in it, Just an amazing war cover, and a very hard issue to find. I waited for a long time for even this low grade issue to become available
