This issue has some of my favorite artwork in the series. Gull and Netley take a tour of London that is drawn masterfully. Sadly Marie, Annie, and Polly are threatened by the Ol Nichol Mob and need 4 pounds. They decide to blackmail the Queen of England who creates Jack the Ripper to kill them. Who knows if Gull would have gone on a spectacle killing spree if he had not been asked to do so? He seemed pretty messed up beforehand. The female psych ward in his hospital was hard to read. Alan Moore also starts to explain some of his magic beliefs through Gull when he and Netley trace a pentigram over London. I’m 100% positive that I like Promethea’s magic better than Gull’s.

I could have done without the time travel scene in this issue and Gull’s tirade about the 20th century. I thought it was dumb and preachy but it doesn’t last long. It would have been hilarious if they had used it in the film version. Imagine what the reviews would have been like then?

This is basically the last issue. Netley crashes into the obelisk and dies while making a blood sacrifice to the Sun. Gull becomes a Mason who is the opposite of free, is institutionalized, and then metamorphoses into a sort of powerful ghost lizard after death because of his Pagan sacrifices. William seems to become a being of the Immateria, a theme that appears later in Promethea. We also get a bit of a happy ending seeing the reincarnated victims being protected and groomed to fight back.

This final issue does not continue the story from #10. Instead it provides an interesting account of Ripperologists and the genesis of the Gull theory. I didn’t catch it however because I was distracted by the stripper.
