Kal El awakens in the city of Kandor on Krypton, where he has a beautiful alien wife, Lyla, and has an important job. However, he feels things are not as they should be. He soon finds himself under attack by aliens disgruntled with the rulers, and when exposed to yellow sunlight, finds himself able to do things no Kryptonian can.

As the Citizens Patrol Corps, and Preus in particular, pursue Kal El, who now knows himself to be Superman, brought to Kandor by a telepathic parasite, he is rescued by the persecuted non-Kryptonians, who want revenge on Lyla, who duped them as well. He tells them the truth about Kandor and reluctantly agrees to bring them to the full-size world to help him track down Lyla, who has already located Lois Lane.
