Atlas War Action #1 is the only CGC 8.0 graded war comic I own and it is highest graded tied with one other.
It is also the my only pedigree comic- a Bethlehem copy
As I mentioned in the basic description War Action has probably the most violent covers of any run,.. looking at this first issue we see an enemy who is about to be skewered by a bayoneted, and in the background some soldiers are being blown to bits

So pleased to present my highest graded raw submission,. a nice CGC 7.5. May 1952 issue #2.
The G.I. is down to his box of grenades, I read somewhere (or was it mythbusters maybe) that it was near impossible to pull the pin out of a WWII grenade with your mouth without breaking your teeth, but that's they way it's always been done in comics and the movies.

A sad situation, the communist have infiltrated our lines on the cover of this issue.
And even though the wounded solder with a rifle as a splint has shot the charging enemy, his momentum will likely carry him into the G.I. with his bayonet.
In the background, more enemy infiltrators also appear to be mopping up unsuspecting G.I.'s sleeping on the ground.
Atlas brand war comics were not just war propaganda and often times showed situations that were unfavorable to American soldiers.

One of the most violent Atlas war comics of them all. The imminent bayonet to the throat stands out in the foreground but what is not so obvious is the enemy with a bullet into the eye (enemy on the right edge of cover , bullet is going into his left eye, his eye is slightly lit up as he is gasping and clutching) An amphibious invasion of Korea, could it be Inchon?

Uhhggg,...another PLOD, my second one ever, the notations on the slab state: slight B1 restoration. tear seal to back cover.
Actually I still cannot find the seal, and if I knew it was there before I submitted it I would have tried to remove the tape/seal and just leave the tear intact in order to get a lower grade blue label, Regardless of grade this is still a nice presenting comic with a great ambush cover!

Near traumatic violence is on display with this cover as an enemy soldier is being extinguished at point blank range, with the bullets entering his front side, and bits and pieces of him exiting his backside !!
Another Atlas war comic cover that has the look of an Aurora plastic model kit.

Issue #8 has a cover showing some vicious combat next to a tank with a blown out barrel. The GI is throwing a grenade with one hand and with his other hand he is strangling an enemy, but the NKA has his hands free and has a knife, it is most likely that none pictured will survive this encounter. This CGC 4.0 looks and presents much nicer than it's given grade.

This cover has a nice white background with mountainous terrain, showing a marine trying to save one of his men from being beheaded at the edge of a cliff. The first two shots by the enemy have missed! boy that sure is a big bullet!

What a close quarters combat cover ! The wounded American has parried the Communist soldiers saber whack !
The enemy has a red star on has cap, and is drawn grotesquely,.. he almost looks sub-human !

This low grade, CGC 3.0 comic actually looks worse in hand but this issue seldom comes up for sale and when it does it is always a reader copy similar to this one.

In the background is a well drawn motley group of soldiers preparing to go "over the top" during a rolling barrage! The soldier in the foreground stands out nicely inked in orange and brown, even above the roar of the artillery you can almost hear him yelling " lets go... men" !!

Signature Series !! signed by Russ Heath and purchased by me off the boards 2nd or 3rd hand, originally bought and had signed by Paratrooper from the boards who collected parachute themed covers, this is a stunning book, a CGC 6.0 black bordered war comic from this era is very hard to find, the signature is well placed and very legible, A stellar example of a signed, Atlas golden age, pre code war comic
