CWNA MEDAL APPEARANCE/CONDITION:
TOP POP: Bronze Variety — Choice Brilliant Gem
Pedigreed: “Fort Collins Coin Club” - Notation: “1971”
*Beautiful example with phenomenal eye-appeal - Obverse of specimen is virtually flawless; Mint-state choice brilliant gem surfaces show absolutely no signs of wear. — The reverse is unique in that it was issued as uniface; however, appears to have been utilized by the Fort Collins Coins Club (FCCC) in Colorado circa 1971 as indicated by the counterstamp enclosed in a heart shape. NGC has added this as a pedigree and subsequent notation to the certification; making this example that much more unique and illusive. — Tied with one other for finest known; both of which are MS-67 and “both” are included in this collection.*
CWNA MEDAL BACKGROUND:
Issued as the inaugural medal of the Colorado-Wyoming Numismatic Association and to commemorate the 'Pike's Peak Silver Mine.' The association was founded in 1952, as noted on the medal. — Additionally, this medal appears to have also been used by the Fort Collins Coin Club as a potential 8th place award in 1971 as indicated by the “8” struck at the top of the reverse. The issue is normally uniface. An absolutely fascinating and historic example of this already scarce issue.
