CWNA MEDAL APPEARANCE/CONDITION:
TOP POP: 1/10 10K-Gold Filled Variety — Choice Brilliant Gem
Pedigreed: “Best of Show, Longmont” - Notation: “April 26, 1970”
*A museum quality specimen with remarkable detail and rich golden surfaces. Resides at the top of NGC’s Population Report as tied for the finest known - Obverse of specimen is virtually flawless; Mint-state choice brilliant gem surfaces show absolutely no signs of wear. — The reverse is unique in that it was issued as uniface; however, appears to have been utilized as the 1st place award in Longmont, Colorado for the CWNA coin show in 1970 as indicated by the counterstamp. NGC has added this as a pedigree and subsequent notation to the certification; making this example that much more unique and utterly rare.*

CWNA MEDAL BACKGROUND:
Issued as the inaugural medal of the Colorado-Wyoming Numismatic Association and to commemorate the 'Pike's Peak Silver Mine.' The association was founded in 1952, as noted on the medal. — Additionally, this medal appears to have also been used by the CWNA as a potential 8th place award in Longmont, Colorado crocs 1970 as indicated by the “Best in Show” struck on reverse. This is of no surprise, considering this is the only “gold filled” variety of the 4 metal-types that exist for this issue (bronze, nickel, silver, and gold filled.” The issue is normally uniface. Reverse is also inscribed with “1/10 10K G.F.” which indicates the gold purity. — An absolutely fascinating and historic example of this already rare extremely rare issue.
