Owner Comments:

This medal was struck for the 1889 dedication of the National Monument to The Forefathers in Plymouth, Massachusetts. It has the same obverse design as the HK-148 National Monument to The Forefathers medals. However, its reverse design is different and, in my opinion, the better design of the two for the purpose of the medal. It is one of only two examples that have been graded and at MS-63 Deep Proof-Like, it is the finest known example by six grade points. It was not included in the HK reference book, most likely because it was unknown to the authors at the time; so there is no listed rarity for this medal. However, with the HK-148 medals having a listed rarity of R7 and a NGC population of over three times that of this medal, I feel that the overall rarity of this medal is most likely at least as rare as, if not rarer than that of the HK-148.
