Owner Comments:
There are three different medals listed in Hibler & Kappen’s So-Called Dollars: An Illustrated Standard Catalog second edition that were struck as souvenirs for the dedication of the Ulysses S. Grant Monument in Lincoln Park, Chicago on October 7, 1891. Two of the three medals (HK-759 & HK-759A) share a common obverse design but can be found with one of two different reverse designs. These medals are listed as type I. The type II medal (HK-760) has a completely different design than either of the type I medals. This piece is an exceptional example of a type I with the “Lincoln Park” reverse. It is made of aluminum and has stunning black & white deep proof-like surfaces. Graded MS-65 DPL by NGC, this piece is the finest known example of a HK-759. The overall rarity is R6 (21-75 known).
