Owner Comments:
The Battle of Bennington was fought on August 16, 1777 and was part of the Saratoga Campaign during the Revolutionary war. The battle was actually fought on a farm in Walloomsac, New York which is about ten miles from Bennington, Vermont and was a decisive victory for the American forces led by General John Stark and Colonel Seth Warner. The British suffered heavy casualties, and the Americans were able to capture many cannons and other weapons. Britain’s loss of so many men and weapons at the battle of Bennington was a contributing factor to the British surrender at the Battle of Saratoga. This medal was struck in 1891 and served a dual purpose; to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Vermont’s admittance to the union on March 4, 1791, as well as the dedication of the Bennington Battle Monument on August 19, 1891. It is made of bronze and all of its design details are needle sharp. It has beautiful color, excellent luster and is a wonderful example of a HK-152A. Graded MS-65 BN by NGC, this piece is one of only five examples the have been graded by NGC. Only one example has been graded higher at MS-66 BN. The overall rarity is R6 (21-75 known).
