This may well be the earliest iisue of Superman I ever get. My original goal was 100-250, which I completed. I am not pushong towards 300 with an eye to upgrade a few along the way.
I bought this issue at the 1988 SDCC. I thought of it as a "fine" copy all these years, and wanted it in my registry set, so I sent it in.

When I was completing 100-200 this was the last issue I needed. I bought a raw VG copy as a placeholder. That was quite a few years ago. Finally found a nice copy to replace that one at the 2019 Wizard World Chicago.

Another cover with really distinctive colors. A rare cover appearance by Luthor (back before he was a businessman) and a silver age telling of Superman's origin. I got this along with a few other nice slabbed early silver age books from PCEI.

DC sure ran alot of covers with people in a tube of some kind. I think there are even people who specifically collect these. I have to say that Wayne Boring covers are not my favorite of the time period. It is interesting that several different artists were cover featured on Superman titles.

When I first got this book I felt like I had scored a difficult to find issue in nice shape. I have since seen this issue in fine or better a few times. From a time period that most Superman collectors would say is tougher for nice copies.

Cool purple baqckground. Some of these covers are really silly, but I guess that's also part of their charm. Finding books from 1957 above fine is a tough feat, Superman and Batman are some of the most popular, making them even tougher.

I have always loved this cover. I first saw it in a Brave and the Bold 15 ad back when I was about 11 or 12 years old. Amazing how something like that sticks with you.

I paid a ton for this book. I have personally found 121, 122, 123, 125 and 126 to be very tough books. Not a stand out cover but for the most part I love the 1958/1959 Superman books. Early Curt Swan covers are just so sweet.
Oh, and there is a bubble on the cover!

Another book I overpaid for because I got frustrated at how hard it was to find a nice copy. You notice that the top of Superman's cape is yellow on his left side? I keep looking at every copy to see if this is a misprint of some kind.

This is a really cool story, a classic actually that has been reprinted a few times. A great Superman read from the silver age!
